Where: Vedholmen, Os, Norway
Project period: 2025
About the project:
The funded exhibition program for 2025 at Vedholmen Galleri focuses on female artists and features nine exhibitions, including three solo shows, two collective exhibitions, and two dance and music performances.
The year opens with Henny Andersen from Askøy, presenting multi-faceted oil paintings on canvas.
The second exhibition, "Formation 4+4," is a collective show featuring four established artists—Tuva Gonsholt (glass), Torunn Skjelland (painting/sculpture), Suvi Nieminen (sculpture), and Rita Marhaug (graphic/painting/sculpture/performance)—who each nominate an up-and-coming female artist: Daniela Bergschneider (textile/ceramic sculpture), Sofie Brønner (wood sculpture/installation), Mariken Kramer (photography/installation), and Catrine Alice Liberg (graphic/print).
The third exhibition, coinciding with Bergen’s Festspill, showcases award-winning photographer Signe Marie Andersen, featuring works including two pieces acquired by the National Art Museum in 2024.
The fourth exhibition celebrates the gallery’s 25th anniversary with a collective show featuring artists who have contributed to its legacy.
The fifth exhibition introduces Kamila S. Mathiesen, who creates intricate porcelain sculptures.
Finally, two solo dance performances by choreographer Malin Vangsnes Owen will expand the gallery’s offerings into performing arts.
About the organisation:
Vedholmen Galleri, overlooking the Folgefonna glacier in Hardanger, at the entrance to Bjørnefjorden, celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2025. Known for promoting contemporary art, the gallery hosts nine annual exhibitions featuring over 40 artists across various disciplines. The venue also integrates musical and dance performances, enhancing its dynamic programming.
This year’s funding supports the planning and execution of five key exhibitions and dance performances, all centred on highlighting the role of women in the art world. These events aim to address gender disparities in the arts while showcasing the diverse talents of female artists through innovative and thought-provoking projects.
