THE SUMMER ACADEMY – OPERA BY THE FJORD – PROVIDING YOUNG ARTISTS WITH SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE WHILE STUDYING – WAS ARRANGED FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME IN 2021.

At the summer academy young singers, instrumentalists, repetiteurs and conductor talents are trained by top professionals in a new concept, which focuses on both song and orchestra within opera.

In august 2021 young academists and their teachers gathered in Oseana Art and Cultural Center in Os south of Bergen – by the Bjørnafjorden – for one intensive week. At the end of the week, they invited the audience to take part in their journey – and were welcomed by a large and enthusiastic audience. The concert included excerpts from the most famous operas, e.g. Bizet's Carmen and Richard Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier.

“In this unique setting we want our students to create their own story, together with top professionals, in a supportive environment which mirrors all aspects of opera life”, says

Eivind Gullberg Jensen, Artistic Director of Bergen National Opera.

Gullberg Jensen continues:

“With the financial support from the Grieg Foundation it is possible to continue to arrange the summer academy to help young artists to be a part of the future of the opera.”

The summer academy is arranged by Bergen National Opera and is aimed at students who are currently in education, or have recently graduated. The academy´s top team of coaches all have experience from renowned opera houses across the world – like the Vienna Philharmonic, the Norwegian Opera & Ballet, the Royal Swedish Opera, the Royal Danish Opera, the Finnish National Opera and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.
