Grieg Foundation supports the Beitostølen Health Sport Center (BHSS). The centre supports child/youth with disabilities. Since 2011, BHSS has offered "Family stays", which means that parents and siblings are invited to participate in the second week of a three-week stay. During the family week, the family can be together in activity to improve skills, try out activity aids and gain more knowledge about adapting activities. In addition, the siblings and guardians have group discussions and counseling services with specific topics to get to know themselves, their resources and opportunities.
As part of the specialist health service, BHSS is responsible for organizing and arranging its services so that the services provided are equal for all, not least for the most vulnerable groups in society, for example families with low functioning children or families with immigrant backgrounds who have children with disabilities. However, the proportion of disabled children with immigrant backgrounds who complete BHSS stays is low. In order to meet this challenge, the project "Active together - possible for us?" was started at BHSS in 2014. The project has contributed to increased knowledge of the family's wishes, needs and expectations in the meeting with BHSS.
As part of the further development of the family service in general, and the offer to the most vulnerable families in particular, BHSS wants to make it possible for the whole family to live together in adapted family apartments. Such development and improvement of the service can help these families to a greater extent feel that the services are accessible and comprehensive. The measure will result in twelve family apartments and form a separate "Family house".
