Where: Norway

Web: Guttas Campus

Guttas Campus is a two-week intensive learning camp followed by group mentoring twice a month the first year after camp. At the camp we focus on fundamental skills like reading, writing and mathematics, and we work thoroughly with social and personal development by focusing on character strengths based on the theories of positive phycology. Working systematically with character strengths is probably what seperates us most from ordinary school. The seven character strenghts are: Self-regulation, curiosity, social intelligence, perseverance, creativity, gratitude, optimism.

Our target group is 14 – 15 -year-old boys who find school challenging but wishes to improve their academic and social skills. Dedicated teachers and social workers meet the boys with predictability, clear boundaries, and lots of care at camp. We want the boys to be challenged, but also encouraged on their important journey to achieve their goals.

The aim of the mentor centers is to follow up the work done at the camp. We meet for approximately three hours where we talk about how things are going at school, how the boys use the character strengths throughout a day, we have a meal together and we offer help with their academic work.

Campus Ung

Campus Ung is a three-week intensive day camp for students at secondary school. This is a new project for us, and the first Campus Ung will be held in January 2024. We will use the same methods and learning theories as we do at Guttas Campus. The main differences it being a day camp and open for both girls and boys.

Main goal

Our main goal is to help youths develop their basic subject skills as well as their social skills, and to strengthen their capability to handle life and complete high school education.

Individual goals:

•       Increase learning motivation

•       Acquire appropriate working habits

•       Personal and social growth

•       Increase their wellbeing

Grieg Foundation

It is a big social problem that youths drop out of school and stay unemployed. The cost of one person receiving social benefits their whole life is estimated to 16 million NOK.

With the generous support from Grieg Foundation we will be able to give 100 boys in Bergen and antoher 120 girls and boys the opportunity to better themselves and finish high school education!
