Great concert and film productions with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra as main component in the Grieg Foundation's overall strategy for supporting classical music in Bergen. The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra Foundation is the largest and most important producer and distributor of classical music in Bergen and Western Norway. Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra is not only one of the world's oldest, but also recognized as a world class orchestra.

Our season profile is characterized by creative programming presenting soloists and conductors at the highest international level. Every concert season needs signal projects that attracts special attention, strengthens the season's profile and creates increased audience attraction. Such projects build the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra's reputation and are also strengthening the city of Bergen's reputation and identity, nationally and internationally, as a city of culture. Such projects from previous seasons are Britten's Peter Grimes, Strauss' Elektra and Wagner's Parsifal. These demanding productions are expensive and require long planning horizons. They may require a particularly large orchestra, several soloists, large choirs, staging, light design, scenography and advanced technical solutions. All major choral projects also include the professional Edvard Grieg Kor. The support from the Grieg Foundation will enable one or two such signal projects in each of the next three concert seasons.
