Nobel Peace builders

I am delighted to share the news with you that today we launched Minecraft ‘Peace Builders’. In it, we invite gamers from across the world to a virtual Nobel Peace Center where they can explore the stories of Nobel Peace Prize laureates and discover ways to mitigate conflict, build peace, and bring about positive change in a new game-based learning experience. This project would not have been possible without the support from Grieg Foundation.

- Helena Boyden Lamb, Special advisor, Nobel Peace Center

‘Peace Builders’ is a sequel to ‘Active Citizen,’ a game-based learning experience released in Minecraft Education earlier this year. ‘Peace Builders’ evolves the story of ‘Active Citizen’ by offering perspective on conflict resolution through the eyes of four new Nobel Peace Prize laureates. The content will be available for free in 29 languages from August 30 for Minecraft Bedrock in the Minecraft Marketplace and all users of Minecraft: Education Edition.

With accompanying educational resources created by the Nobel Peace Center and Games for Change, ‘Peace Builders’ provides an immersive learning experience with opportunities to extend learning beyond the game and find out more about the world’s greatest changemakers and strategies for democratic social change.

Peace Builders’ is a new map in the Minecraft world where players can meet Alfred Nobel, the founder of the Nobel Prizes, and explore the stories of four fascinating Nobel Peace Prize laureates — Jody Williams, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Carl von Ossietzky, and the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

The gameplay is unique, dynamic, and meaningful: players clear land mines, learn from a wartime whistleblower, help earthquake victims, and join a peaceful rally. This Minecraft content gives players and their families, and students and teachers, a safe way to engage in challenging topics together.

By bringing the stories of Nobel Peace Prize laureates to young people on a platform they know and love, ‘Peace Builders’ aims to inspire the next generation to build their own vision for world peace.

THE EDUCATION RESOURCES

To support classroom use in 112 countries where Minecraft: Education Edition is used in schools, the Nobel Peace Center and Games for Change developed curriculum and resources for educators and students aged 8-16. Educator resources on the Nobel Peace Center website include lesson plans, design challenges, and teacher discussion guides.
