Organ restoration at Årstad church

Who: Årstad church

What:
Restoration of the valuable organ at Årstad church

Where: Bergen

Project period:
2022

Web: Årstad kirke

The organ at Årstad church is 100 years in 2025 and one of few organs in Bergen of this age where the sound profile has remained unchanged. The instrument is both historically and musically of high value.

The electric technical system has on the other hand been renewed several times, the last time - and rather unsuccessfully - in the early 1980’s. A thorough restoration of the whole system has been needed for decades. The congregation has now started the process of getting this big and expensive work carried out in order to have the instrument fully restored to the centenary.

The project is a collaboration between Årstad congregation, the church authorities in Bergen (Bergen Kirkelige Fellesråd) and several private contributors, with Grieg Foundation as the most important. The contribution from Grieg Foundation is crucial to get this project realized.
