The Food Bank Inspiring Children and Youngsters to Reduce Over-Consumption and Food Waste
Who: Matsentralen Vestland
What: Inspire children and youngsters to reduce over-consumption and food waste.
Where: Bergen
Project period: 2022-2024
Matsentralen Vestland is a food bank located in the western part of Norway. In 2021 we redistributed more than 500 tonnes of surplus food to disadvantaged people, and we contribute to 7 of UN´s 17 Sustainability Goals.
They redistribute food that producers and wholesalers donate to them. This is eatable food that for different reasons cannot be sold. Matsentralen Vestland collaborate with more than 50 non-profit organizations, that collect food from our warehouse and pass it on to thousands of disadvantaged persons in, and around, the city of Bergen.
We are extremely grateful that Grieg Foundation wants to support our school project and help us to raise awareness and build knowledge about sustainability, food waste and poverty. Through this project we want to inspire children and youngsters to reduce their over-consumption and their food waste, and though this to live more sustainable lives.
