During the next three years, Grieg Foundation and CARE will give 2000 female entrepreneurs a chance to develop and expand their businesses thogh the programme DEAL – Developing Entrepreneurship and Literacy in Rwanda´s Southern Province. A key element of the new programme will be training in digital tools that can help the entrepreneurs run their businesses.
Aspiring entrepreneurs will be trained and assisted in developing their business ideas into business plans, and join a digital mentoring programme where experienced entrepreneurs provide valuable guidance, advice and support.
The programme teaches basic numeracy, reading and writing skills, and have dialogue sessions on issues like hygiene, health, conflict management and economics.
31 % of women in Rwanda do not know how to read or write and have scarce job opportunities.
Grieg Foundation and CARE have been partners for 10 years and provided training in reading, writing and numeracy for 90 000 people in Rwanda. The new project DEAL will combine literacy and numeracy training with business training.
Cooperation has been crucial to the project’s success. Not only the cooperation between CARE Norway and Grieg Foundation, but also cooperation with CARE Rwanda, local authorities and business associations, and local partners like Duhamic Adri and AEE.
For CARE, partners like Grieg Foundation with their long-term commitment are invaluable. The continued financial support from the Grieg Foundation enables CARE to continue their work providing women of Rwanda with tools they can use to create better lives and a brighter future for themselves and their families, tools that empower and enables them to be self-reliant.
