By focusing on human and environmental health, and the empowerment of future generations, Grieg Foundation and EAT are fully aligned in their vision and commitment to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Cutting across all 17 SDGs, food accounts for the single most important lever for achieving these goals as well as other internationally agreed treaties such as the Paris Climate Agreement.

Grieg Foundation supports EAT in its mission to transform our global food system through a dynamic three-way integration across knowledge, engagement and action. The core grant awarded by Grieg Foundation contributes directly to EAT's operations and projects, including a scientific assessment of how aquatic foods can play a key role in delivering healthy and sustainable diets to the world population; a global analysis of food systems economics that will provide political and economic decision-makers with evidence and tools for a healthy, equitable and environment-compatible food future; and EAT's policy and advocacy work with UNICEF to enable all children and adolescents to access nutritious, safe and affordable diets within planetary boundaries.

All of EAT’s activities will come together at the first ever UN Food Systems Summit in 2021. The Summit will launch bold actions and strategies to deliver progress on all 17 SDGs and will awaken the world to the fact that we all must work together to transform the way our food is produced, consumed and distributed, thus answering the UN Secretary-General’s call to “build back better” from COVID-19.

Grieg Foundation's funding supports EAT in executing its leadership of the Summit’s Action Track 2: Shift to Sustainable Consumption Patterns.

It is EAT's main goal to co-create and crystalize a menu of game-changing solutions to be adopted as ambitious commitments across stakeholders from policy, business, civil society and science.

“The support from the Grieg Foundation has been integral in ensuring that EAT is able to meet our objectives, uphold our operations and further advance our mission to transform the global food system, despite the manifold challenges we faced in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

EAT’s global force is dependent on partners and donors that equally believe in our mission, purpose and ideas, and are willing to support us both in the short and long term. We greatly appreciate and are thankful for the support Grieg Foundation provided in 2020.”
