The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent humanitarian organisation helping people forced to flee. NRC works in crises across 31 countries, providing life-saving and long-term assistance to millions of people every year.
The projects span from emergency relief and education in war-torn Syria to school construction in Iran – enabling Iranian and Afghan children school access and social cohesion. Most recently, Grieg Foundation is supporting a sustainability project to enable the green shift across NRC and setting a standard for the humanitarian sector.
With the support of Grieg Foundation, NRC partnered up with two other partners of the foundation, CARE and SOS Children’s Village, to develop an interactive stand for the Development Goals Forum in Oslo in March 2020. Through the exhibition the organisations put a focus on some of the challenges youth face today (particularly in developing countries) and the SDG’s most relevant to these challenges and the organisation’s mandates (#4 - Quality education, #5 – Gender equality, #8 Decent work and economic growth, and #17 Partnerships for the goals).
The centerpiece of the exhibition was a unique VR experience where the viewer could “visit” a refugee camp in Uganda and walk a day in the life of a young female refugee. The exhibition was a success and there are plans to set up the same exhibition at other events and at the offices of Grieg Group once corona restrictions are lifted.
