About the organization
The Edvard Grieg Choirs Foundation is a professional choral organization based in Bergen. The foundation offers comprehensive choral training through a pyramid structure with 7 children's choirs from beginner, children's, and youth choirs, to the fully professional choirs; Edvard Grieg Vocal Ensemble (EGV) and Edvard Grieg Choir (EGK). EGV and EGK are two of Norway's premier vocal ensembles and play a leading role in the development of choral singing and interest in it in Bergen and the Western Norway region.
The foundation aims to be a natural collaboration partner for leading Norwegian and international cultural institutions. It is set to take a leading role in the development of professional choral activities nationally, especially linked to talent development and collaboration with the choral movement. The foundation has developed and manages a complete high-quality development program (the choir pyramid) with weekly rehearsals and concerts throughout the school year for up to 200 young singers. EGK aims to inspire and closely collaborate with the choral movement in Western Norway.
About the project
The Edvard Grieg Choral Foundation’s innovative educational and development program for young singers is fundamental to the core objective of the organization to promote the art of Classical choral singing. We have developed a comprehensive structure of choirs within the organization giving children and young adults the opportunity to discover their voices and the extraordinarily wide-ranging scope of classical choral music.
Currently more than 200 young singers aged between 6 and 26 rehearse every week of the school year working with our highly trained instructors, pianists, and professional singers, with our expert staff giving careful consideration to the individual needs of the young singers at every stage along the way. With an extensive program of concerts throughout the year, together with summer schools, choir tours, locally and abroad, and performance opportunities alongside our own professional singers and with our partners, Bergen National Opera and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the young singers in our program enjoy unrivalled access to all levels of Classical music making through this unique and vital program for our young artists of the future
