The Hordaland Youth Brass Band (HUBB) is a collaborative ensemble designed for school band musicians aged 13-19 from the former Hordaland region. We aim to create a nurturing environment where the most dedicated young musicians can challenge themselves and grow musically.

In May 2024, we will head to Denmark to compete in the Aalborg Music Competition, an esteemed entertainment contest. This event marks the first collective competition for our musicians! Participation in this contest offers a unique opportunity for our youth to present a program they have diligently prepared and to experience performances from other bands, fostering a more profound commitment to their musical journey.

The project starts in February with a preparatory weekend in Stord, where the musicians will gather to gear up for the competition. Throughout this journey, they will receive extensive musical support, including expert instruction to enhance their individual and ensemble skills. Thorough preparation is critical, ensuring our members are confident in their performance pieces and their collaboration with fellow band members, which is crucial in a competitive setting.

At the competition, constructive feedback on their performance will be provided, offering valuable insights to elevate the band's level further and likely boost group motivation environment where the most dedicated young musicians can challenge themselves and grow musically.

A trip for unity, musical development and -exchange with others!

Besides the musical exchange, predominantly with participants from Denmark, the social aspect is equally vital. Following the concert and award ceremony on Saturday, we have planned a communal dinner and disco for all participants, fostering cross-border friendships and memorable experiences. While these young musicians already share accommodation during our gathering weekends, this trip promises to strengthen their camaraderie. A shared goal and the excitement of new shared experiences will unite them.

Social interaction is a cornerstone of the HUBB experience, and we aim to extend this ethos to our trip, enhancing the network among musicians from the former Hordaland. Sunday will be dedicated to social activities, deepening our connections and ensuring that we excel musically and in our community spirit. The competition organizers describe the event on their website as 'a celebration of the most incredible music imaginable written for brass bands.' We are thrilled to be part of this celebration and look forward to a fantastic experience!
