Give Music A Chance

Who: Give music a chance

Project period:
2024

Give Music a Chance - Norway collects used musical instruments and equipment from local partners, for use in social and inclusive measures aimed at children and young people in developing countries and conflict zones. In collaboration with the Belgian organization Music Fund, the instruments are checked and repaired before they are sent out to projects in Congo, Haiti, Palestine and Mozambique. In 2024, we plan to collect 200 instruments, which will go to selected projects, and preferably music schools in Congo and Palestine. For this project we are focusing on brass and wind instruments, with Norges Musikkorps Forbund - Hordaland (NMF) and local brass bands as the most important partners.

The musical instruments we distribute must be playable from the moment they arrive at one of our partners. An important part of our joint projects with Music Fund is to build local expertise in the repair and maintenance of instruments. This should help to make the projects sustainable over time. We therefore also contribute to building up local workshops in connection with the music schools and contribute to the training of local repairers in the maintenance and repair of instruments. We already have good experience from this type of work from projects in Haiti and Mozambique i in 2023.
