Aktivt Pusterom has since 2019 been doing health-promoting activities for people with dementia. One of these activities is "Trening og halloi" that includes activities to music, sing-alongs and "yodeling" for both nursing home residents and for those who live at home. Despite the participants' cognitive challenges, it is clear that the programme and routines created in the activity are recognizable and give positive associations for the participants. "Kor è koret" is a project in the further development of Aktivt Pusteroms initiatives, initiated and run by Marianne Hole, and is inspired by the series "Demenskoret" on NRK TV. The rehearsals started in march and ended in a grand concert for the participants' friends, family and other interests funded by Grieg Foundation.
A big part of the rehearsals was the social breakfast arranged by our volunteers. The participants, their family and the other people involved in the project got to get to know each other in a calm and social environment. After breakfast the rehearsals began where they sang joyful songs that they knew from the past led by the funny and charming choir-leader, Yvonne Algrøy, and the talented pianist, Tarjei Vatne.
The goal of the project was and still is to increase everyday activity, quality of life, social activity and promote positive empowering experiences for people with dementia. “Kor è Koret” will start with the rehearsals again in the fall and continue to sing and have a great time with both old and new participants.
The concert, funded by Grieg Foundation, was held at Ole Bull Scene in Bergen City Centre on the 21 of May. The concert gave the relatives and other acquaintances the opportunity to see what their loved ones still can do and what resources that still live in them. The concert hall was almost full and the room had an informal, warm and fun atmosphere. There were many touching moments, especially for the relatives who got to see their family members and show their fresh, emotional and humorous sides through solos and shared choral singing
