What: Miniøya 2025

Where: Tøyenparken, Oslo

Project period: 2025

About the project

Miniøya is the children's own festival, and it will be held in Tøyenparken on June 14-15, 2025. Our diverse program features music, theater, literature, dance, disco, and engaging workshops, providing children with a wide range of cultural experiences and artistic expressions. The festival showcases both established and emerging artists, captivating performances, and interactive workshops that actively involve children and allow them to explore the transformative power of art.

Since the first festival in 2010, Miniøya has recognized children and young people as a full-fledged audience and has worked to provide them with cultural experiences as rich as those available to adults. We aim to challenge the concept of children's culture and introduce our audience to a broad spectrum of musical and cultural experiences within safe and inclusive frameworks, where the child's experience is at the forefront. Children who experience good cultural experiences are more likely to seek out culture as adults. Therefore, it is important that children have access to a broad range of high-quality cultural offerings.

The lineup for Miniøya 2025 reflects not only our vision, but also emphasizes gender balance and representation across a diverse array of genres and musical styles. Miniøya focuses on the environment and sustainability, and offers a good selection of healthy and locally sourced food and drinks.

Our festival aims to unite and build bridges between different cultures, social classes, and ethnic groups. We strive to create a sense of community and joy. To achieve this, we work on two main fronts to introduce as many children as possible to various forms of art and culture: We foster curiosity that can lead to active participation in the cultural field, and we facilitate attendance at the festival regardless of demographic variables. Each year, we distribute over ten percent of our tickets to families facing socioeconomic challenges.

About the organisation

Miniøya is operated by Stiftelsen Miniøya (the Miniøya Foundation), whose purpose is to create cultural experiences for children and young people. As a nonprofit foundation, we are not commercially driven, and any surplus will go directly back to the foundation's mission statement.

The foundation's administration is based at Sentralen in Oslo and consists of three employees. In addition, we engage around 50 freelancers in key roles and over 400 volunteers, prior to the festival. We prioritize inclusivity, emphasizing social interaction and personal achievement through tasks, as we have found that active participation leads to the highest level of engagement.

Stiftelsen Miniøya has established itself as a year-round organizer. In addition to organizing Norway's largest music and culture festival for children, we are also behind the concert series Minimusikk, Miniøya's Christmas, Miniøya's festval school, and organizer of courses for children and youth.
