Klimajakten
Who: Varmere Våtere Villere
What: Klimajakten
Where: Bergen
Project Period: 2025
About the project
In 2025, we want to invite children, youth and other curious people in Bergen to “Klimajakten”, or “The Climate Hunt”. “Klimajakten” will consist of an interactive map of the city centre, where children and their families can answer questions and solve challenges all about nature, climate and sustainability. The goal is to convey climate information in an exciting and age-appropriate way, and to encourage creative thinking and problem solving. The knowledge the children gain will contribute to making them more confident in their understanding of what the climate and nature crises are, and how we can solve them together. Consequently, the children will be encouraged to take an active role in their local communities and environments and be given the tools to express themselves. As “Klimajakten” is a mobile application, it has the potential to be a permanent and year-round activity, but during the Climate Festival in March, it will be expanded to include concrete challenges or activities to improve the environment and local community. The project will combine established technologies such as qr-codes and a mobile application created by a local developer with a fun learning experience for children and young people. The different “posts” around the city centre will be found by geolocation, and there is therefore an opportunity for using large parts of the city, as well as expanding the “Klimajakt” area when needed. The questions and challenges will be created by our partners within climate science and academia and will therefore be of high quality. “Klimajakten” will be a free, accessible and inclusive activity for children and families in Bergen, which will contribute to increasing children’s knowledge on climate issues and encourage them to act.
About the organisation
Varmere Våtere Villere (which translates to Warmer Wetter Wilder) is a foundation which works towards making knowledge about climate change more engaging and accessible for the public. The foundation arranges the yearly Climate Festival in Bergen, with climate science, debates about solutions, and cultural experiences over a period of four days. An important part of the foundation’s goal is to reach a large and varied audience, across generations, backgrounds and interests. Therefore, the “ Climate Festival Junior”, as well as events created specifically for children, youth and students, is a central part of our work. The festival has many local, regional and national partners and supporters, and has become the most important arena for climate discussions accessible to the public in Norway
