D/S «Stavenes» is the last passenger-steamer in Norway possible to restore. She was one of the ships in the «Fylkesbaatane» fleet, built in 1904.

She is currently at Stord where some steelwork has been carried out in the stern in clinker construction. This is done by younger people who learned old shipbuilding technique with timely crafts.

The gift from the Grieg Foundation will contribute to fund wooden decks in the salon and the post office.

Laying new wooden deck on the "Stavenes" helps maintain the knowledge and workmanship of old shipbuilding crafts.

The National Antiquities Department at the Department of Vessels has greatly appreciated this work.

In accordance with the National Antiquities Guidelines, all work on board is carried out according to antiquarian principles.
