Sykehusklovnene is an ideal organization consisting of 50 healthcare clowns. Their aim is to spread joy, happiness and to give sick children and their families a positive break from illness, medicine and medical treatment.

The clowns are professional actors or performers who undergo specialist training in order to work with children in the healthcare environment. In Bergen, there is a group of six local clowns working five days a week at Haukeland hospital.

The healing power of humor and laughter combats stress, helps promote a positive outlook, and helps children cope with difficult situations in their daily combat against illness. The atmosphere of fun and laughter can help children forget about the illness and the stress for a moment.

Sykehusklovnene use techniques such as music, storytelling and other clowning skills to empower children with doses of fun that help them deal with the range of emotions they may experience while in hospital: fear, anxiety, loneliness, boredom.
