About the organization:

Girl Up Initiative Uganda (GUIU) is a women-led and founded organization with a mission to build a vibrant movement of girls and young women through transformative leadership, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) education, and skills development for employability. We envision a gender-equitable world where girls thrive and lead. GUIU reaches this vision by building adolescent girls’ and women’s leadership and mentorship capacities so they can become movement-builders and drivers of systemic, gendered change in their communities. By targeting adolescent girls and young women, we are intentionally empowering them to recognize deep-rooted inequalities at a young age and become advocates of gender justice. Since 2012, GUIU has been responding to the unmet need to advance educational and economic opportunities for adolescent girls and young women in resource-deprived slum communities and most recently in rural areas as well.

About the project:

For enhanced well-being among adolescent girls and young women, ensuring consistent access to a robust educational pathway is crucial. This project seeks to secure uninterrupted access to both formal and informal educational opportunities for vulnerable adolescent girls and young women. It places special emphasis on interventions within schools, including scholarship support for girls at risk of dropping out of primary education. Furthermore, it extends to out-of-school interventions focused on skills development and entrepreneurship education. Moreover, the project highlights the intersection of education and climate change by integrating climate-smart initiatives aimed at promoting environmental consciousness among adolescent girls and young women.
