D/S «Stavenes», the last passenger-steamer in Norway possible to restore. She was once one of the ships in the «Fylkesbaatane» fleet, built in 1904. The restoration plan is to take her back to the 1939-model.

With this gift from Grieg Foundation it has been possible to restore the promenade deck to its original look. The work has been done by Skipstømraren, located at Sagvåg, Stord. The work is done according to the knowledge and workmanship of old shipbuilding crafts. It is done by pine plank, pitch and tar.

This new promenade deck is besides being the ship's upper deck, is also a seal of the work done below, where Grieg Foundation has also contributed to the restoration. The external restoration of the stern is now nearing its end, and we are glad that this work can be kept safely under deck.

The National Antiquities Department at the Department of Vessels has greatly appreciated this work.

In accordance with the National Antiquities Guidelines, all work on board is carried out according to antiquarian principles.
