On Wednesday the 26th of October 2022 Kvinner i Kuling (KiK) was arranged for the eleventh time by Maritime Bergen. This year KiK was done in collaboration with WISTA and held in Grand Selskapslokaler. The initiative was started to spread knowledge about the maritime industry as a career opportunity for young women, with the aim of helping to change the gender imbalance in the maritime industry.
At this year's event, female students from seven different study places and over 26 different fields of study came to learn more about the maritime industry. In addition, 33 resource persons from several segments of the industry participated.
Opportunites in the maritime field
The evening started with a post from the general manager of Maritime Bergen, Siv Remøy-Vangen. Furthermore, interesting lectures were given by FRAMO, Odfjell, Dof, BAHR and WISTA, which gave the students insight into different segments and opportunities in the maritime industry. After the lectures, the students got to "speeddate" employees in the maritime field.
Throughout, there was a self-assuredness among speakers and resource persons who relied on the clear faith in their own industry and the conviction that a glowing interest in the maritime industry would arise and burn hot if one first got inside the industry.
The recent years, we have also invited male resource persons. If we are to succeed with a more even gender balance, we must pull together, and men's maritime voice is essential when working with diversity in the form of increasing the proportion of women in the industry.
